Pierre-Luc Dubois scores winner as Jets beat Canucks in OT

Pierre-Luc Dubois had two goals and an assist, including the game-winning tally early in overtime, as the Winnipeg Jets rallied to defeat the host Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on Sunday night.

Dubois skated in on the left wing and fired a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Braden Holtby just 27 seconds into the extra period to extend Winnipeg’s winning streak at Rogers Arena to seven in a row. The two goals were the first for Dubois with the Jets since he was acquired from Columbus in a blockerbuster trade for Patrik Laine on Jan. 23.

Mark Scheifele had a goal and two assists, Blake Wheeler had three assists and Neal Pionk also scored a goal for Winnipeg. It was the fifth straight game that Scheifele scored a goal and the 10th straight game he registered a point, matching career highs in both categories.

Connor Hellebuyck finished with 31 saves to improve to 8-2-0 in his career against the Canucks.

Elias Pettersson scored two goals, J.T. Miller had two assists and Brandon Sutter also scored a goal for Vancouver. Holtby stopped 27 shots.

Vancouver, blanked 2-0 by the Jets in Friday night’s opener of the back-to-back, needed just 3:38 to take a 1-0 lead on Sutter’s sixth goal of the season. The Canucks got a break on the score when Jordie Benn’s shot from the right point bounced off the backboards and into the back of the net where it rolled around past the right post to Sutter who easily tapped it past Hellebuyck.

Pettersson extended the lead to 2-0 later in the period with a highlight-reel goal. Brock Boeser fired a shot from the slot and the rebound went to Pettersson, stationed with his back facing the right side of the goal. Pettersson then chipped a backhand shot between his legs and past Hellebuyck’s glove hand for his sixth goal of the season.

Winnipeg cut its deficit to 2-1 when Dubois, back after missing four games with a lower-body injury, one-timed a cross-ice pass from Wheeler.

Scheifele then tied it early in the third period when he raced down the right wing and fired a wrist shot that went through Holtby’s pads and trickled over the goal line.

Pionk gave the Jets their first lead with a power-play goal with 9:27 to go, one-timing a pass from Dobois from the left point past a Benn screen for his third goal of the season and 100th career point.

Pettersson tied it with 37.7 seconds left during a 6-on-4 power play when he one-timed a shot from the right circle to set the stage for Dubois’ dramatic game-winner.
