Nathan MacKinnon registered two goals as the Colorado Avalanche extended their point streak to 13 games with a 3-2 victory over the Blues on Friday in Denver.
Brandon Saad also scored for Colorado, Gabriel Landeskog recorded two assists and Jonas Johansson stopped 25 shots for his first win this season — the second of his career. The Avalanche are amid an 11-0-2 stretch and closing in on the club-record point streak of 16 games, set in 2000-01.
David Perron had a goal with an assist and Mike Hoffman also scored for St. Louis. The Blues managed only 15 shots on goal over the second and third periods and could not convert a late power-play chance while falling to 0-4-1 in their past five contests.
Maple Leafs 2, Jets 1 (SO)
Jack Campbell made 31 saves and Jason Spezza scored the only goal of a shootout to give visiting Toronto a victory over Winnipeg. With two wins over the Jets in the past three days, the first-place Maple Leafs have opened up a five-point gap over Winnipeg and Edmonton in the North Division standings.
Toronto’s Travis Dermott and Winnipeg’s Andrew Copp scored the only goals in regulation.
Campbell improved his record to a perfect 8-0-0 this season. Playing in his 300th NHL game, Connor Hellebuyck was just as impressive at the other end of the ice, stopping 37 of 38 shots.
Capitals 2, Devils 1 (OT)
Dmitry Orlov scored with 21 seconds remaining in overtime and Washington ran its record against New Jersey to 7-0-0 with the win in Newark, N.J.
The defenseman scored when he raced up the ice and released a blistering wrist shot from the right faceoff circle before New Jersey’s Yegor Sharangovich could defend him. The puck sailed over goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood’s left shoulder, and the shot was so hard that the puck quickly caromed out of the net.
John Carlson scored in the second period for the Capitals, who are 15-4-0 in their past 19 games. Vitek Vanecek finished with 22 saves. Michael McLeod netted the Devils’ goal later in the second period, and Blackwood stopped 38 shots. New Jersey is 1-2-2 in its past five games.
Oilers 3, Flames 2
Connor McDavid’s third-period goal broke a tie and sparked host Edmonton to a victory over Calgary.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Dominik Kahun also scored for the Oilers in an entertaining Battle of Alberta clash, while Mike Smith made 24 saves. Leon Draisaitl added two assists. Edmonton is on a 5-1-1 run overall and has won five of the seven clashes with Calgary this season.
Michael Stone and Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Flames, who received a 22-save performance from goalie Jacob Markstrom. Calgary has lost six of seven games.
Sharks 3, Kings 0
Martin Jones made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season and Rudolfs Balcers had a goal and two assists to lead visiting San Jose over Los Angeles.
It was the 25th career shutout for Jones, who had his first seven of them as a backup to Jonathan Quick with the Kings from 2013-15. Jones improved to 17-5-3 with two shutouts against his former team. Tomas Hertl had a goal and an assist and Timo Meier also scored for San Jose, which won its third straight game.
Calvin Petersen made 33 saves for the Kings. The two teams, who meet four times over a nine-day span, complete their back-to-back on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Coyotes 4, Ducks 2
Lane Pederson scored in his NHL debut and Phil Kessel added the game-winner with just under eight minutes remaining as Arizona defeated host Anaheim for its fifth victory in the past seven games.
Johan Larsson and Nick Schmaltz also scored goals for Arizona. Adin Hill had 27 saves as the Coyotes won two days after taking a 9-3 defeat against the Colorado Avalanche.
Alexander Volkov scored a goal in his Ducks debut. Jakob Silfverberg also found the back of the net for Anaheim, which has lost five times in its past seven games.
